Being an Educated Therapy Consumer
Anyone looking to start therapy is
faced with a vast array of choices. First, there
are different types of professionals who provide
psychotherapy, including social workers, psychiatrists,
and psychologists (including Ph.Ds and Psy.Ds).
In addition, there are different
schools of psychotherapy, including
cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, psychoanalytic, and
supportive. Each school of therapy represents a
unique approach to solving people’s problems.
With all of these choices
available, it’s important to educate yourself before
seeking treatment. Below are some links that address the

Recently, the New York Times Magazine ran an article
entitled
Depression's Upside. In the article, several researchers
speculate that depression may serve to improve our thinking
and our ability to solve problems. This speculation has been
the subject of much controversy and debate among mental
health providers. |
